Returning to Full Time Study

The result of one grant which perhaps epitomises the Trust’s desire to encourage adults who aspire to personal development through education was described by its recipient as follows (with paraphrasing):

"I returned to full time study as a mature student following a career change due to changes in my health.   My earlier career was spent in sport coaching and fitness, and included managing the local health club, working with children and adults with special needs, and competing in endurance and adventure races.   Making the decision to return to full time study with students half my age was a challenge, but the greater challenge was undertaking a degree with a learning disability (dyslexia).

The combination of support from the university and money from the Trust enabled me to buy specific support equipment and tutorials.   Having these additional tools enabled me to study at the same level as other students without a learning disability.   The outcome was that I managed to achieve a 1st class honours degree in Quantity Surveying and a Student Achievement award.

I am currently studying a Masters degree in Construction Law at the University of Wolverhampton."
